How To Diffuse Your Essential Oils
One of the most common ways to introduce aromatherapy into your home is by using a diffuser. There are four main types: nebulizing, heat, ultrasonic and evaporative diffusers. Each one has the same purpose and that is to release essential oils into the air so that you can reap the benefits of essential oils. Each of these four releases the essential oils into the air differently.
Let's take a look at each different type of diffuser and how they work.
Nebulizing Diffuser
These types of diffusers use no heat, but deliver tiny particles of essential oils into the air using a high speed, highly pressurized stream of air. It creates a fine mist that will disperse the tiny particles of essential oils into the air, which allows you to breathe it in.
This type of diffuser does not effect the composition of the oil and does not dilute the scent, therefore giving you full aromatherapy benefits.
Nebulizing diffuser are the most expensive to purchase and use. Why do I say use? Well these diffusers only use the oil. You do not add water or anything else, so just essential oil, and therefore you will use more essential oil.
They are also known to be the most noise producing of all of the diffusers available.
Heat Diffuser
Heat diffusers use heat to slowly evaporate essential oils, releasing them into the air. Depending on the quality of the diffuser you will find that some get very HOT, which isn't always a good thing because heat can change the chemical composition of an essential oil.
Some will use water, while others do not. But, I recommend that if you choose this method of diffusion that you find a diffuser that uses very low heat.
Ultrasonic Diffuser
This is the most popular style of diffuser, and can be easy purchased online or even in most retail stores. This is why I focused most on how to use this style of diffuser in our social media post.
This type of diffuser uses water and electronic frequencies to disperse the essential oil. On the bottom of these diffusers is a small disk that will vibrate quickly, those vibrations break up the water and oil into micro particles, that are then released for inhalation.
No heat is used, so it protects the integrity of the chemical composition of the essential oil, which is important in delivering the therapeutic benefits of the diffused oil.
This method can also help humidify the air, as you place the oil into water.
Evaporative Diffuser
Evaporative diffusion uses the flow of air to release the scent. One of the most cheapest ways to diffuse, you can add oil to a tissue, cloth, or tissue, attach it to a fan and let the scent disperse.
The down side to this method has to do with the chemical composition of essential oils. First to be diffused will be the lighter particles, and the heaviest last. This means that you are not going to get the full therapeutic benefits of the essential oil as a whole.
Regardless of which diffusion method you choose, diffusion is a great method to inhale the benefits of essential oils.
I personally use an ultrasonic diffuser, it is easy, comes in fun colors and all different styles to fit right into your home's decor.
